Dubai said it would issue an arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu if a police investigation into the assassination of a senior Hamas militant leader there finds Mossad agents responsible.
If issued, Dubai’s Attorney General Essam al-Humaidan would ask Interpol to help implement the arrest of Netanyahu. So far, investigations into the murder of Mahmoud al-Mabouh in a Dubai hotel room on January 20 reportedly found that the “European” assassins had used Irish passports.
The threat of an arrest warrant for Israel’s leader by Dubai police chief Dahi Tamim was a sign its political deterrence was weak, said Syrian dissident Farid Ghadry. “When a senior policeman in Dubai threatens a sitting PM of a sovereign country with arrest, it is obvious Israel has lost its psychological deterrent,” Ghadry told The Media Line.
