Despite violence aimed at the Iraqi voters, the Iraqi people defied all odds and came out in drove to vote for would-be elected officials in yet another election that is a clear sign to other Arab countries that democracy works in the Middle East when given the chance.
Many of the bombs that went off in the morning brought even more people to vote in the afternoon in a gesture of defiance to all those who wish Iraq malfeasance and destruction.
RPS congratulates the Iraqi people for exercising their rights fully as citizens of Iraq and for paving the way for other citizens in the region to seek the same rights as Iraqis enjoy today. All Syrians look forward to a day soon when elections in Syria are held without intimidation and where any Syrian can become a president chosen freely by the people of Syria.
